Humble Beginnings: The Early Years

When Angel Young started Humboldt Clothing Company back in 2002, she had about $50 to her name. She had always enjoyed art, skateboard culture, and cruising around the country in a VW van, and was looking for a way to turn her passion into a product. Throwing $1000 on a credit card, Angel placed her first order of Humboldt hoodies, and rented out a kiosk at the local mall. Luckily, she had grown up working in the family business, and had been hustling everything from skateboards to carpet cleaner since she was 5 years old. While she didn’t have a lot of capital, Angel knew that creativity, an unstoppable drive, and killer customer service were the magic ingredients to running a small business.

ALWAYS INDEPENDENT: STILL LOCALLY OWNED

We’ve grown from that first tiny mall kiosk to two full blown locations and a webshop. And nearly two decades on, we’re sticking to our roots. We’re still committed to kick ass service, high quality gear, and spreading that Humboldt County pride.

We’re the original Humboldt Clothing Company, and we plan to stay right here. We’re not owned by some big corporation or conglomerate. From that first employee (who went on to become Angel’s awesome husband), to the folks that mail out orders around the world, we consider our employees family. We’re a local, independently owned business that’s keeping jobs right here in the place that started it all.
